Let’s address the giant pair of ceremonial scissors in the room.

We aren't exactly the "new kids on the block" here in Plainfield. So, you might be wondering why we recently partnered with the Chamber of Commerce to throw a massive ribbon-cutting party, complete with a gourmet coffee cart, a food truck, and a literal giveaway for Pitbull tickets.

The honest truth? Because we desperately needed an excuse to celebrate you.

That ribbon we cut wasn't about opening our doors for the first time; it was a physical milestone celebrating the fact that our roots are officially, deeply planted in Plainfield soil. Building a business is a lot like raising a puppy: it takes patience, a lot of cleaning up messes, and a village of people to help you survive it.

We Know Your Dog's Name (And We Apologize If We Forgot Yours)

There is a highly specific, wonderful intimacy to running a local pet store. We don't just ring up bags of kibble and send you on your way.

We get to see our neighbors at their absolute best: teary-eyed and glowing as they walk in to buy their very first collar for a newly rescued shelter dog. And, let's be real, we also see you at your absolute most chaotic: dragging a mud-covered Golden Retriever through the front doors, apologizing profusely, and begging our grooming salon for a miracle.

We swap stories, we commiserate over the destruction of our favorite baseboards, and we get the distinct privilege of watching your hyperactive puppies grow into distinguished, slow-moving seniors with sugar faces.

(And yes, full confession: we absolutely know your dog's name and probably have no idea what yours is. To us, you will forever be "Billy’s Dad" or "Lizzie's Mom." Please accept our apologies, but we simply do not have the brain space for human names).

It Takes a Village (And a Lot of Caffeine)

We hear the phrase "shop local" a lot, but what it really boils down to is an ecosystem. Small businesses don't thrive in a vacuum; they thrive because they lean on each other.

When we decided to throw our community bash, we didn't do it alone. We brought in Cozy Corner Coffee to keep everyone highly caffeinated with "Zoomies" cold brews, and our friends at La Dolce Vita provided incredible appetizers because, let's face it, humans need treats too. We even had the honor of hosting the Will County Officers and their incredible K9 companions.

That is what community actually looks like. It is a shared ecosystem of neighbors celebrating neighbors. A rising tide lifts all boats, and honestly, Plainfield has some pretty spectacular boats.

The Roots Keep Growing

The party might be over, the confetti has been swept up, and the Pitbull tickets have been officially claimed, but the actual work—and the sheer joy of doing it—continues every single day.

Whether you have been shopping with us for years, or you just moved to town and need a recommendation for a leash that your dog cannot immediately chew through, our doors are always open. We are incredibly proud of the store we have built, but we are even prouder to be your neighbors.

Stop into Pets Etc. this week. Bring your dog, tell us a story, and let's keep growing these roots together.
